Get A Life! is an initiative of the Community Foundation of
Northwest Mississippi to end childhood obesity by improving access to
nutritious food and increasing opportunities for safe physical activities for
children in the region. Get A Life!
works primarily through Community Health Councils, Healthy Congregations – a
large network within the faith community, school health councils and worksite
wellness initiatives. We utilize
evidence based strategies and collaboration with a broad range of partners
including the Office of Healthy Schools at MS Department of Education, the Office
of Preventive Health at MS Department of Health, MS State Extension Service,
and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and others who mission includes
reversing the obesity epidemic in Mississippi.
Our primary service area includes Desoto, Tate, Marshall,
Panola, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Coahoma and Tunica counties. Our Regional Health Council includes
representatives from each county along with
Community Health
Councils comprised of local health champions in eight counties have
implemented a wide variety of evidence based strategies to address childhood
obesity in their communities. Details

Healthy Congregations
is a multi-denominational coalition of hundreds of congregations throughout
northwest Mississippi and beyond who promote health and wellness through their
ministries. To learn more about this

School Wellness – Tremendous
progress is being made in Mississippi schools where school wellness councils
have taken on the challenge of ensuring that good nutrition and increased
opportunities for physical activity are a part of the school’s
environment. Several outstanding schools
are featured here.
Worksite Wellness – From
the fitness center at Williams, Pitts & Beard, financial advisers in Desoto
County, to the award-winning program implemented within Tunica County
Government, employers in northwest Mississippi are enjoying increased profits
and happier employees by providing outstanding health and fitness programs that
reduce their health insurance costs while improving employee productivity and
