MARSHALL – SOCO (STAMP OUT CHILDHOOD OBESITY)

The Marshall County project, “Stamp Out Childhood Obesity” (SOCO) , included presentations to parents and children at 12 local schools to promote healthy food choices and increased physical activity.   The project culminated with the first annual SOCO Walk for elementary school children in April at Spring Hollow Park to raise awareness and promote walking as a simple, effective means of daily exercise.

In 2008, the Marshall County CHC co-sponsored a full day of training for 22 Head Start Centers in northwest Mississippi in I Am Moving, I Am Learning (IMIL).   This evidence based approach was designed specifically for Head Start Centers and the strategy will impact nearly 2,000 children in centers operated by ICS which is based in Holly Springs.
