QUITMAN – YOUTH IN MOTION

QUITMAN COUNTY – YOUTH IN MOTION

A group of active community leaders worked together to implement a program for children in the local Head Start program using puppets, workbooks and educational materials called “Organ Wise Guys”.  This exciting program encourages kids and families to make healthier food choices and get more active physically.

A huge celebration was held April 12th for "Youth in Motion" with lots of healthy food, games, prizes and entertainment.

Free Body Mass Index testing was offered to participants including any child in the local Head Start program.

In 2008, the Quitman County CHC co-sponsored a full day of training for 22 Head Start Centers in northwest Mississippi in I Am Moving, I Am Learning (IMIL).   This evidence based approach was designed specifically for Head Start Centers and the strategy will impact nearly 2,000 children in centers operated by ICS which is based in Holly Springs.
